"Poetry Generates Power" in the epic poetic chant, Ke Kumulipo. This volume examines the history of Hawaiian thought from the earliest creation stories of oral history to the exacting geneological chants that legitimized the dynasties of Hawai'i.

Ke Kumulipo continues to be a masterwork of Polynesian literary, political and spiritual philosophy whose model can still be used to generate power for subjugation...and resistance.
